WelcomeIntensiveEnglish Language LearningSession Students!
Midway University(MU) is proud to offer a 4-week Summer Intensive English Learning and AmericanCulture Immersion Program for international students. The program includes thefollowing: there will be three classroom instruction courses and one coursewhich includes at list three official field trips of American cultureimmersion.
A total of 12 non-credithours of instruction:
IEL101(grammar)
IEL102(writing), and
IEL103 (conversation and reading, and Lab)
IEL104 (field trips/Cultural activities) this course allows students toexperience
American culture and enhance language skills.
This4- weekSummer Intensive English Learning and American Culture Immersion Programalso offer anEquine Internship Classwhich includes basic horseriding for beginners. Additionally, other available internship programsinclude:Toyota Moto Company;teaching internshipsat local private elementary thru high schools in Franklin County, Kentuckywhich include their Summer Camp, and an internship class forbusiness andnursing programs. The nursing program also includes visits tolocal hospitals with Midway University nursing students.

Summary ofContent for Classroom Courses
Each class willincorporate the four essential research-based activities for learningEnglish: speaking(fluency and pronunciation),listening(oral comprehension),reading(vocabulary andcomprehension);andwriting. There willbe daily homework assignments, and in-class activities will include individualand group work. Students will be required to practice on their own at thecomputer lab, and will be scheduled for individualized tutoring and Englishpractice with master’s level instructors from the English as a Second LanguageCenter for Excellence.
Content for IEL101 English grammar and syntax willinclude:verbs; tenseagreement;nouns and pronouns; idioms;prepositions; comparatives & superlatives; punctuation and capitalization;adjectives & adverbs; common grammatical mistakes of IEL learners.
Content for IEL102 English writing will include:proper sentence and paragraph structure;the writing process, writing instructions and directions; comparing andcontrasting; writing opinions; summarizing reading materials; and writingessays.
Content for IEL103 English conversation and readingwill include:learningeffective listening and speaking skills, improving vocabulary and readingcomprehension, and preparing students forIEL104 field trips and
Cultural Activities/internshipto enhance learning about the customs andculture of America.

Section 2: LexingtonAirport Arrival : Sunday, July 17th,2016
Students will be picked up on Friday, July15 at New York airport, N.Y. and transported to a Hotel in New York loop, NewYork.
Field trip Class to New York (Univ. of Columbia,New York Univ., and New York Manhattan)

10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Placement testing (studentswill complete anationally accredited placement test which will give the teachers a better idea oflanguage level). Go to MU registrar to receive student ID cards
12:00 p.m.–1:00p.m. Lunch
1:00p.m. Cultural and Englishconversation tour of the MU campus led by a member of the MU studentambassadors.
3:00 p.m.-Studentsdepart for dorms.

All studentsare requiredto be in the computer laboratoryor library if not in class.
Instructorswill provide students with detailed lesson plans for each class at the start ofthe session.

Friday, July 22 1/2 day, MU campus to Frankfort (13 Miles)
This tour willtake us to many historic and significant places in the capital city of Frankfort,Kentucky, such as the Capitol building, the governor’s mansion, the Capitalcity Museum, and the City of Frankfort.
